4 Simple and Quick Healthy Snack Ideas

With so many of us still in lockdowns, or working from home, it’s been easy to do a lot of snacking. For some people, that’s not always the best, but there are plenty of quick healthy snack ideas out there to try and you can look through our Pinterest Board for more.

We have some yummy, filling snack ideas that will help you feel a bit more “hot girl summer”.

These are 4 quick healthy snack options that we love and are easy to make at home.

  1. Hummus

Hummus is made of chickpeas (garbanzo beans), which are full of protein and extremely filling. You can eat it with some veggies such as carrots, cucumbers or celery, or even rice crackers or a low calorie cracker option. The hummus is a perfect creamy consistency and best is its fully vegan and gluten free!

Recipe:

  1. Add the chickpeas to your blender and make sure to reserve the liquid (it’s called aquafaba). If you forget and accidentally toss it, no worries, just use water.

  2. Add the tahini, olive oil, fresh lemons, garlic, cumin and salt to the blender. Use two garlic cloves for your basic hummus.

  3. Turn your blender on high and push the ingredients into the blades. After 30 seconds, it should be fully blended.

  4. Your hummus will be thick, creamy and smooth. If you’d like a thinner consistency, just add a bit more aquafaba or water until it’s your desired consistency.

  5. To serve, add a few large, heaping spoonfuls to a plate or bowl and give it a swish depression on top. This creates a little divot for your olive oil to stay in. Then sprinkle some paprika and add fresh parsley

  1. Chocolate Almond Butter Banana bites

The chocolate almond butter banana bites are a great quick healthy sweet snack option. It consists of frozen banana slices, layered with almond butter, that are dipped in a thin layer of chocolate (I use dark chocolate to make it vegan). Bananas are a good source for Vitamin C, Potassium, and antioxidants. It contains the most antioxidants when fully ripe. Almond butter contains extra vitamins, fiber and healthy fats and proteins. Bananas and almond butter are a great balance between sweet and salty as well as filling and nutritious. The chocolate is just an added bonus

Recipe:

First, you’ll need to prep a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, follow these easy steps.

  1. Slice the bananas. Peel and slice the bananas into rounds about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Spread the almond butter. Place half of the banana slices on the baking sheet and spread a layer of almond butter on top.
  3. Create a sandwich. Place another banana slice on top to create a mini sandwich. Repeat this for the rest of the banana slices.
  4. Freeze the bites. Place the bites in the freezer until solid – about an hour.
  5. Melt the chocolate. Heat the mixture in 20 second increments, stirring in between until its silky smooth. Add coconut oil to make it extra smooth and dip-able.
  6. Dip the bites. Remove the frozen banana bites from the freezer. Dip each frozen banana bite into the melted chocolate so that half of each bite is coated. Then place it back on the baking sheet.
  7. Freeze once more. Place both baking sheets back into the freezer to let the chocolate harden.
  8. Enjoy! Once frozen, you’re ready to enjoy or store away in freezer safe containers.

  1. Chocolate Almond Butter Truffles

These truffles are full of nutritious goodness! and are the perfect pick me up when you have low energy. They have it all, as each ingredient brings different health properties!

Almond butter is high in healthy fats and protein, which will not only help give you sustained energy, but will also help fill you up. Coconut flour is incredibly high in fiber. Maple syrup is a naturally derived sweetener, which has tons of minerals, and will convert into carbohydrates to give your brain some fuel. And finally, dark chocolate; a dark chocolate bar (typically 70 – 85% cacao) is packed with antioxidants and minerals like magnesium, iron and manganese So these truffles are a sweet treat you will definitely not feel guilty eating!

Recipe:

  1. Mix together ½ cup of almond butter and ¼ cup of maple syrup until fully combined and smooth. Add 2 tablespoons of coconut flour and stir until almond butter begins to thicken and turns into a dough.
  2. Roll 1 tablespoon of dough into small balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat until no dough remains. Set aside.
  3. Melt the chocolate over a double boiler until completely smooth. Use 1 cup if you want chocolate covered truffles and use 1/2 cup if you want just a chocolate drizzle on top. Sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
  4. Place in the fridge for 1 – 2 hours, until chocolate has hardened. And of course, enjoy! Recipe serves 18
